Elections and Voting

The Municipal Clerk is the Chief Administrative Officer of all elections held in the municipality and Chief Registrar of Voters in the Township. Please check the NJ Division of Elections for frequently asked questions or call the Clerk's office at (609)538-7609.

Election Information

The registration deadline to vote at the next election is 21 days prior to election day.  

General Election - November 5, 2024

The General Election is the Tuesday after the first Monday in November. 

The Voter Registration deadline for the General Election is October 15, 2024.

Register to Vote

Eligibility

To register in New Jersey, you must be:

• A United States citizen
• At least 17 years old, with the understanding that you may not vote until reaching the age of 18.
• A resident of the county for 30 days before the election.
• You are NOT currently serving a sentence, probation or parole because of a felony conviction.

Registration is permanent, and re-registration is only required for a change of name or residence.

Note about your signature* If your signature has changed since your original voter registration, it is recommended that you re-register to vote so your signature is current and can be matched to the one on your registration when voting.  If you are disabled and can no longer sign your signature when voting, please reach out to the Mercer County Superintendent of Elections Office at (609)989-6750 for further information.

The deadline to register to vote is 21 days before Election Day.  October 15th for the 2024 General Election.

Polling locations are available in list and map format. Please note you will need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader or similar software to view and / or print these documents.

• List of 2024  General Election Polling Locations  

All active registered voters in New Jersey who are currently not on the Vote by Mail list will automatically receive a Vote by Mail application in the mail this year.  If you did not receive one, please verify that you are registered to vote, and fill out the application here and return it to the Mercer County Clerk.  This does not apply if you wish to vote at the polls.  Mail In Ballots will be mailed out to requesting applicants 45 days before the election beginning September 21, 2024.  

Instructions for completing the Mail in Ballot

1. Look inside the envelope you receive in the mail for these items:

• The ballot
• An inner envelope with an attached certificate
• A mailing envelope

2. Completely fill in the oval next to each of your selections in blue or black ink.
3. Fill in and sign the certificate, keeping it attached to the inner envelope.
4. Place the ballot into the certificate envelope.
5. Then, place the certificate envelope into the mailing envelope.
6. Return your ballot. How you return it is up to you.
   Select one of the following three ways:

• Mail: Vote-by-mail ballots sent through the mail must be postmarked by Primary Election Day and received by the county Board of Elections on or before November 11.
• Secure Ballot Drop Box: Place it in one of your county’s secure Ballot drop boxes by 8:00 p.m. on November 5th. The County Board of Elections will be picking up these ballots. In Ewing Township there are Ballot boxes:
  • in front of the Municipal Building at 2 Jake Garzio Drive,
  • at the TCNJ Administrative Services Building at 1872 Pennington Rd. in front of the campus side, and
  • at Mercer County Office Park at 1440 Parkside Ave..   (Full list of Mercer County Secure Ballot Box locations)  
• Board of Elections Office: Deliver it in person to your county’s Board of Elections Office by 8:00 p.m. on November 5th at 930 Spruce Street, Lawrence Township, NJ.

*Note* If you have received a Vote-by-Mail Ballot but choose to vote at the polls instead, please note that you will have to vote provisionally.

Open Hours: Saturday - Saturday – 10 am – 8 pm and Sundays 10 am – 6 pm.

All registered voters can now cast their ballot in person, using a voting machine, during a nine-day period prior to Election Day. You can choose to vote when it's most convenient for your schedule.

No matter where you live in your county, you can vote your specific ballot at any of our county's designated in-person early voting locations, from Saturday, October 26 through Sunday November 3.

There are seven early voting sites located throughout the County.  The locations are as follows (List in PDF format):

7. TRENTON - Trenton Fire Headquarters, 244 Perry Street, Trenton

Early Voting Process

Step 1 – Check in with election day staff via the ePoll book (bring your sample ballot with you and give to your board worker).

Step 2 – Receive a voting authority slip and hand it to the board worker, who will then pull up your ballot on the ballot marking machine.

Step 3 – After you have selected your choices to vote, you will review your ballot to ensure accuracy and then print your ballot.  Once exiting the ballot marking machine, you will then grab a privacy sleeve and put your ballot inside the sleeve. 

Step 4 - Take your ballot to the tabulator next to the ballot marking machine and insert your ballot in any orientation into the machine.  The scanner will read the ballot and deposit it into a secure internal compartment within the device.  Please make sure you hear a click, which means that your vote was counted and “ballot successfully cast” appears on the screen.  You may now leave the polling place.

What if I always vote by mail, but now want to vote early in person instead?

If you are registered to vote by mail in the 2024 General Election, you may cast your ballot during early in-person voting or on Election Day via a provisional ballot which will be provided to you at your early voting site or polling place. Learn more about provisional ballots at VOTE.NJ.GOV. If you no longer wish to receive a mail-in ballot, reach out to your County Clerk’s office for more information.

Polls are open on Election Day, November 5, 2024, from 6 am – 8 pm.  PLEASE NOTE YOUR POLLING PLACE ON YOUR SAMPLE BALLOT.

Voting has now moved electronic, and Mercer County has moved to a marked paper balloting system with a verifiable paper trail. 

Polls are open on Election Day, November 5, 2024, from 6 am – 8 pm.  Your sample ballot will indicate your polling place. See list of Ewing designated polling places.

Hints for Ease of Voting on Election Day

• If you come in person, be sure to remember your District Number as recorded on your sample ballot. This will help ensure that social distancing requirements are met and a quicker voting process.
• It is always a good idea to bring identification and proof of address with you when you go to vote, especially if you are voting for the first time. If voting for the first time you may need to bring a photo ID, utility bill, paycheck, or other document showing your name and address.
• The process will be slightly different if you use Early Voting from voting on Election Day. Please note in the descriptions above.

You may choose to automatically receive Mail-in Ballots in future elections.  Select Option A to choose to receive a Mail-in Ballot for the remainder of this calendar year.  Select Option B to receive Mail-in Ballots for all future November General Elections.  Mail-in Ballots will then be provided until you request that you no longer be sent such a ballot or following failure to vote for four successive general elections following the general election at which you last voted.

FAQs

• You can vote with a "Mail-In" ballot for any reason.
• Original signatures are required.  The County Clerk cannot accept faxed or emailed copies of an Application for Vote by Mail Ballot, unless you are a Military or Overseas Voter.
• Deadline:  The Vote by Mail application must be received by the County Clerk at least 7 days prior to the election. A voter may also apply in person to the County Clerk until 3 p.m. the day before the election.
